Vikram Sarabhai was born on 12 August 1919 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. His father was a big businessman. He used to do the business of clothes. At the age of 18, he went to Cambridge to study. From this he completed his PhD.
India was fighting the war of independence 80-90 years ago. At that time India was far behind in the field of science compared to western countries. At the same time, a Lal from Gujarat used to dream of taking India into space. He often used to talk about science with his friends. Who later became the famous space scientist of the country. During his studies in Cambridge, he was involved in many experiments related to science. Abdul Kalam himself used to say about Sarabhai, I have not taken any very high level of education but used to work very hard in work and this was the reason that Sarabhai recognized me, gave me a chance and took me forward. Dr. Abdul Kalam considered Azad Sarabhai as his guru.
Took charge of ISRO in 1962
Vikram Sarabhai also worked with CV Raman. In the year 1962, he got to see the work of ISRO. During this, he worked for his work with a token salary of only one rupee. People argue behind taking less salary that Sarabhai himself came from a wealthy family. Because of this, he never faced any financial problems in research related to science.
Vikram Sarabhai established many institutions
Vikram Sarabhai established many science-related institutions during his lifetime. Vikram Sarabhai established the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) in Ahmedabad on 11 November 1947. Sarabhai was instrumental in the establishment of institutions such as the Ahmedabad Indian Institute of Management, the Ahmedabad Community Science Center, the Ahmedabad Darpan Academy for Performing Arts, and the Ahmedabad Vikram Sarabhai Space Center.Along with this, he also established Thiruvananthapuram Space Applications Center, Ahmedabad Faster Breeder Test Reactor and Kalpakam Variable Energy Cyclotron Project. He was also the chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission in May 1966.
